Since you are here on Neocities, you probably already have a website of your own, or you at least know how to make one.
But if not, don't worry! I have a few tips here just for you! There are already a lot of great guides online, so I'm not going to go into too much detail. I'm just going to share some useful things that may help you on your journey to becoming a webmaster.
A common misconception is that you need to be some kind of genius programmer to have a website. But all you need is a bit of HTML, a splash of CSS here, and you have yourself a functioning website! If you want to become a professional web designer, you're gonna have to learn a few more programming languages, but if you just want a website as a hobby, HTML and CSS is fine. If you don't want to learn, you can get by with just copying and pasting. Or you can use a drag and drop website maker by using something like Wix.
You don't even need any fancy software to make your site! If you're using Windows, all you need is Notepad to start. (Sorry Mac and Chromebook users, I don't know what software you could use...) If you use Neocities, you can even just edit your site right in your browser! Personally, I use an old version of Adobe Dreamweaver to make my site. I like it because you can see your site update as you type. For a long time, I just used Notepad on my Windows XP netbook. It worked just as well as Dreamweaver did. There are a few web designing progams out there, but the only other one I know of is FrontPage. You could probably still use that to make your site if you wish.
Hosting your site doesn't have to cost money. I would personally just recommend going with Neocities. There are similar services out there, but most of them put annoying adverts all over your pages. Neocities come with 1GB of free storage, which doesn't sound like a lot, but it actually takes a long time to fill up. It's perfect for beginners. Another place I used to use was Wix, but it lacks the charm of Neocities and it doesn't have a community either.
My tips are going to be split up into multiple sections. Hopefully at least some of them will be of use to you!
